The Duckweed is IN the Mail

September 11, 2012

Congrats to my first two duckweed sample winners. (who shall remain anonymous) Your duckweed is in the mail and speeding its way to you right now. Make sure you unwrap immediately and have your container of water waiting. Let tap water sit overnight if possible to evaporate off residual chlorine. If rain water, beautiful and perfect just the way it is.

The rest of you say, “How come they are so lucky? What can I do to get some free duckweed?” Simple. Subscribe to my blog. I randomly pick three winners a week for as long as my duckweed supply holds out.

If you ARE a lucky winner, it would be great for you to take a photo of your thriving duckweed in its growing container at some point after you receive it. Or better yet, a picture of you feeding your sample’s offspring to fish, using as a green mulch,or whatever. From small beginnings come great things…

Yes, we need more duckweed enthusiasts!

My ducks were outside yesterday as usual, splashing in their wading pool. About 5 p.m., I passed the duckweed container to see how it was doing, and low and behold, most of the duckweed was gone! It’s in a large concrete bowl, sitting on a base, theoretically above duck damage.

    “DUCKS! FRONT AND CENTER!”

    (Huh? What did she say?)

    “WHERE IS THE DUCKWEED???”

(Duckweed? What’s that? We don’t know nuttin’ about duckweed.)

“This container was full of duckweek this morning! What happened to it?”

(Why would WE know what happened to it? We’re busy turning our wading pool into a swamp by dumping dirt into it.)

Apparently, if my ducks can stand on their tippy toes, they can reach the surface of the water and suck up the duckweed.

So I covered it with some chicken wire to keep the feathered piranhas out of it.

So protect your new duckweed from ducks and other interested parties!

    Sue
