Swimming Pool to Sustainable Mini Farm

March 13, 2012

Wondering whether it’s worth the upkeep on that big, high maintenance pool in your backyard?

See what Dennis McClung and family did with theirs. It’s a fascinating example of what can result from a little thinking outside the box.

These folks happen to be big fans of duckweed for feeding tilapia and chickens as well. They offer some great tips on duckweed production. I like how they advise growing duckweed in several locations as trials. This makes it easy to discover what micro niches work the best; either indoors as in a pool setup, or out in an open-air garden.
